Guideline 4

Notify appropriate parties (neighbors, public agencies, authorities) of intent to burn

• Contact adjacent landowners and neighbors via phone calls, mailings, or other means at least
• 2-4 weeks prior to burn,
• on the date of the burn, and
• upon completion of the burn

• Immediately prior to conducting the burn, contact your local:
• Forestry,
• Fire,
• Police/Public Safety, and
• Local Unit of Government

• Visually monitor smoke plumes throughout the burn and provide additional notifications to sensitive populations so they can take necessary actions (e.g., stay inside with air conditioning systems on)
